Ancestors with Military Service

I started this page about 10 years ago, but got distracted before I finished it. Consider it a work in progress.

French and Indian War, 1761

From the roster of Captain Wm. Edmonds Company of Virginia Troops:

Herriman Hitt (I have no clue who this is)
John Hitt (1715-1782), the eldest son of Peter Hitt and Elizabeth Otterback, born 1715. Both John and his son, John, Jr. were members of the Fauquier County (VA) militia as stated in French and Indian War Records (Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. 7, pp. 305-6).

Revolutionary War

Civil War

Capt. Joel Hughes was killed at the Battle of Shiloh.
William Hughes was killed in the Civil War, but I don't h
John A. Gary was killed at the Battle of Perryville
Reuben Hitt lost a leg at the Battle of Perryville.
John Hitt was killed at the Battle of Franklin.
Reuben Washington Hitt was wounded in the Siege of Corinth and died about 20 months later.
Capt. Charles J. O'Conner fought in the Battle of Mobile Bay.

World War I

James Hughes Hitt died at the Battle of the Roer.
Jack Hollingsworth was a Major in the US Army Air Corps.
