I think Edna Fache was born around 1798 for the fol lowing reasons: 1. That would put her close in age to her husband Lazarus Hitt. 2. That would make it possible for Reuben Washington Hitt, born in 1826, to be her natural son. 3. Census data consi stently indicate she was born in the 1790s, although the data are not consistent down to the exact year. That leaves an apparent discrepency with the date on her tombstone. When I saw the tombston e, the date was very difficult to read. I could not completely make it out, although it did look like 177?. I wonder of the "7" in the tens digit of the year was really a 9. A look at the picture of t he tombstone on rhitt.com shows the ambiguity in interpreting the numbers.
