Note
|
Jesse Hughes was born in Virginia and moved to South Carolina as a young man. He married Dorcas Johnson there. Jesse and Dorcas moved to Tuscaloosa, AL at some point prior to moving to Mississippi. When they did move to Webster County, MS, in 18 45 their youngest child, Billy, was fourteen years old. I have the old land deed that was made to him three months after his oldest son Daniel had bought it. Daniel did not come to Mississippi, however he did purchase, for $750, a big tract of land in 1845 but sold it to his father very soon. After their death, Jesse and his wife were buried near Slate Springs in Calhoun County, MS. |
